March 8-11 California City
Mar. 22-25 Golden Palms RV Resort in Hemet, CA

The Elk-Enders would like to take this opportunity to thank Gary and Carol Lawler for a tremendous year as President and First Lady. Great Job. We look forward to this next year of fun and activities with Eileen Rasmussen as our new President.

The California water districts once again thank the Elk-Enders for scheduling both outings which ensures we will receive our needed rain.

March was a fun and busy month for the Garden Grove Elks ElkEnders. Hosted by the Mahoney's and the Spychaj's, Elk-Enders and guest held the semi-annual "Do It in the Dirt" classic fun outing without a poker. Unfortunately rain arrived and dampened the area but not our spirits. We will return in November.

The second March outing consisted of Elk-Ender members and guests (16 RVs) enjoying the Golden Palms RV Resort RV Park in Hemet. Skip & Cheri Racke Wagon Masters with Bill and Mary Deisenroth, and Bob & Barbara Zulke as assistant Wagon Masters did a superb job. John Zahn did a great job of mentoring our new Wagon Master Team. We celebrated the weekend with 16 RVs, 32 members and guest (which included 5 dogs and 2 cats). A number of smart folks arrived on Wednesday and enjoyed watching those who arrived during the rain on Thursday who thanked those who had umbrellas and helped these arrivals park. Thursday night Thursday evening 14 members enjoyed dinner at the Texas Road House.

Friday the sun made life very nice as the other brave souls arrived. We were fortunate to have David & Barbara Fromholz, guest of Jerry & Kathi Tretter and George & Carrie Anthony, gust of Jim & Tina Hitt join us for the weekend. The Friday night catered dinner of chicken breast in a creamy mushroom gravy, mash potatoes, salad and apple-peach crisp desert was excellent. Following diner a game of Skru-yer-Neighbor was played with Bernice Sheppard (Barbara Zulke's mother) taking first place with Bill Deisenroth and Barbara Fromholz taking second and third places.

Saturday morning started off with a tremendous assortment of dishes. We will be collecting the recipes. After breakfast a number of members visited local attractions prior to the shuffle board competition, which was held in a facility built as a practice site for the 1984 Olympics. The lanes were slick and a far cry from the cement ones we normally played on in the past. The high scorer was Bob Zulke and the winning team was Ken Moody and Jerry Tretter. Following this competition we enjoyed appetizers and libations while listening to the fun our group had with shuffle board. Dinner was again catered by Stephany Boarders consisting of a salad, roast beef in gravy, new red potatoes, green beans, strawberry shortcake with chocolate sauce.

Our new president Eileen Rasmussen conducted our meeting turning over to Sheriff Bob Zulke, who showed no mercy. Numerous offenses we noted with two standing out. The first is one of our members pulled his tow vehicle to the campsite only to find out his keys for the vehicle remained in Garden Grove. Thank goodness for locksmiths. The second unusual offense occurred when Fire Equipment Operator/Engineer provided a practical driving experience for his wife in the campground. Yes she did well and parked the RV straighter then he did. After the sheriff finished we played Left-Right-Center. The winner was Betty Nicholson. The Purple Pig was a big winner with the various game winners donating their winnings to the Purple Pig and Lodge maintenance fund. Combinations of the funds collected from the games, sheriff fines, Buzz's Bar, and the center piece decorations raised $307.00. In fact the beautiful Easter Basket and Eggs table center pieces of Wheat Grass, hand made by Cheri Racke, auctioned-off brought a $170.00 contribution to the Purple Pig.

All of the Elk-Enders welcome new members for just $15 dues a year. All you need is a recreational vehicle and a desire to have fun. If you do not own one, consider renting one and join us for our next outing. Check the calendar on for events throughout 2014 and 2015.
