THE REAR VIEW MIRROR

Mission Bay RV Resort San Diego, CA - September 27 - 29 2018
Wagon masters: Ken & Karen Moody & Bill & Sue Catlin

he Elk-Enders enjoyed a fun filled weekend of games and a good time at the Mission Bay RV Resort. We enjoyed a great turnout of Elk-Enders for the weekend, 18 rigs and guest. All of the wagon masters were kept busy on Thursday and Friday assisting the parking of our members. The weather was very pleasant as were outside under canvas excellently decorated with a Mexican theme for Friday night's dinner. Being outside allowed us to enjoy the weather and see parts of the Navy Flight Demonstration team, the Blue Angels, performing all weekend at MCAS Miramar.

Thursday was an easy evening with folks sitting around their rigs catching-up on the latest news or visiting local restaurants and shopping areas. An impromptu Pot Luck dinner was enjoyed by many of the early arrivals. On all three days many of our members enjoyed bike riding on the beach paths or in the campground, fortunately without reported incidents.

Friday afternoon we feasted on a vast array of appetizers to sample and other refreshment. Our evening meal was an excellent choice of chicken or beef tostados (prepared by our wagon masters) and a great assortment of deserts. Following dinner there was a game of Skru-ur-Neighbor which was won by David Skelton, Bob Taylor was second, and Gretchen Taylor in third place.

Saturday morning our membership prepared a Pot-Luck breakfast guaranteed to gain 4-5 pounds of an assortment of main dishes, sides, and fruit treats. Prior to and during breakfast Buzz's bar provided a lift to our morning start. During the mid-afternoon we played our normal bean-bag baseball game. It started out as complete runaway by the ladies but the men closed the score in the later innings. The ladies did win by a comfortable measure.

The cook your own entree dinner was superbly augmented by the various potatoes, salads and other dishes provided by the wagon masters. Of course the meeting included a visit from a member of law enforcement official, Sheriff John Zahn ruled the day, reading the violations, real or imaginary, which were properly adjudicated. Rick Glasby and Don Schlensker volunteered to lead this outing next year. We completed the evening with a game of Left-Right-Center which was won by Cathy Glasby.

The Purple Pig and parking lot refurbishing fund were well fed from the generosity of the two games, Buzz's bar donations, and the sheriff's fines.

A grateful thanks to our Wagon Masters for a wonderful weekend.
