THE REAR VIEW MIRROR

Valencia Travel Village
April Campout (April 20-23)

Jerry & Kathi Tretter, the lead Wagon Masters, with Glenn & Margo Dobbs and Russ & Betty Nichoson filling in as the Assistant Wagon Masters. The popularity of this location continues to grow as 15 Rigs of various types and sizes made the trip. The weather was varied as it was rainy and cool Thursday morning but warmed up the remainder of the weekend to allow some hearty soles to go swimming. We once again enjoyed the company of Dave and Barbara Fromholz, who previously camped with us in Hemet, before leaving for Barbara's next assignment in Redwood City.

Friday through Sunday our members enjoyed visiting the Reagan Library, Lake Piru, Santa Paula and various fruit stands along the way. Some did it all. Friday night dinner was an All-American feast of awesome hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by Jerry and served by our Wagon Master team. Glenn made a version of Love's style Barbeque Beans. Following dinner our normal game of Skru-yer neighbor was played with Bud Preston the winner, with Don Quijada and Jim Young finishing second and third.

The Saturday morning Pot Luck breakfast was the usual feast of excellent dishes and fun conversations. In the afternoon a hard fought game of Bean Bag Baseball was played with the Women VS Men. There were plenty of home runs by both sides. There was even a devilish flasher raising his shirt disrupting one of the ladies resulting in a lot of laugher and a strike out. After an hour and 1/2 the guys won 30-26. It was rumored that the score keeper took a bribe. Saturday night's dinner consisted of excellent Pulled Pork cooked by Jerry with all of the fixings and many deserts. Following dinner members conducted our normal meeting and a visit by local law enforcement personnel. The Sheriff, Skip Racke, ensured all transgressions were properly adjudicated and fines levied. Cathy Van Bruggen won the favorite LRC game. The various donations raised $65 for the Purple Pig, $35 to the Building Maintenance Fund and an additional $54 to the RV Upgrade Fund.

As always, we thank the Wagon Masters and their assistants for a superb weekend. The Elk-Enders appreciated the Valencia RV Park management for their helpfulness in accommodating our last minute changes.
