THE REAR VIEW MIRROR

March 8-10 California City
March 28-31 Newport Dunes RV Park

The Elk-Enders would like to take this opportunity to thank Eileen Rasmussen for a tremendous year as our President. We look forward to this next year of fun and activities with Tim and Vicky Draughon as our new President and First Lady .

Total in attendance was 14 rigs, including Sean Smoricks group. It was windy Thursday and Friday, so we opted to pass on the poker run. We did a group ride to Randsburg on Saturday which was nice as the weather was good. Since March weather can be iffy, we made the decision to not do the poker run in the future we will only do it in November. We will still be going in March for a fun weekend only.

The second March outing consisted of Elk-Ender members and guests (32 RVs) enjoying the Newport Dunes RV Park. The combination of Sue & Bill Catlin, Joyce Claussen & Larry Mamchur as Wagon Masters, with assistance from Karen & Ken Moody, did an excellent job. The weather was fantastic all weekend. On Wednesday the door to Sherrie & Lance Larson's rig would not open. Bill Catlin was able to crawl through an open window and open it from the inside. Unfortunately all of the Elk-Enders enjoying this spectacle did not capture a photo. Thursday morning we all gathered at The Skelton's RV for a superb breakfast afternoon prior to an excellent catered dinner from our Elk Lodge. During the weekend we welcomed a number of guests from the Ray & Woodard families and Dennis & Kathy Gardner.

Friday 40 of our campers toured Newport Bay on the Duffy boats. All made it back safely. We enjoyed a surprise dinner of Sue Catlin's excellent homemade recipe for Goulash followed by a game of Scru-ur-Neighbor. The card game was won by Howard Whittaker beating-out Sherrie Larson with Barbara Woodward taking the third place winnings. Saturday morning's Pot Luck Breakfast provided the usual great variety and tasty food. Later in the afternoon appetizers and libations were served during rousing baseball game with the ladies winning by a score of 37 to 20. Saturday night consisted of another catered dinner from the Newport Rib Company and of course a visit from the Sheriff. Sheriff Sherrie Larson noted the many violations of our member's actions or lack of actions. She determined fines that were just and would bring in more funds. Following the meeting a game of LRC was played with a lot of enthusiasm. Evelyn Morrissey was the last player standing and took home the winnings. Thanks to the Sheriff's fines, and donations from the Scru-ur-Neighbor and LRC games, the Purple Pig and the Parking Lot Fund were well fed.
