The Elk-Enders camping program is a unique and cherished part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, blending the spirit of outdoor adventure with the Elks’ core values of fellowship, charity, and community. Born out of a shared love for camping and camaraderie, the Elk-Enders have grown into a vibrant network of Elks members who gather regularly to explore the great outdoors—together.
The Elk-Enders program began in Southern California during the 1960s, a time when RV camping and travel trailers were gaining popularity across the country. Members of several local Elks lodges, particularly within Orange and Los Angeles Counties, discovered they had a common interest in recreational travel. Rather than enjoy their adventures individually, these members decided to form an organized group that would bring Elks and their families together through shared camping experiences.
The idea caught on quickly. Elk-Ender units—essentially camping clubs affiliated with local Elks lodges—began popping up throughout California and eventually in other states. Members would plan weekend outings, caravan trips, and longer excursions, all while maintaining the fraternal and charitable spirit of Elkdom.
Each Elk-Enders group maintains its own bylaws and calendar of events, but all share the same core mission: to promote friendship among Elks through recreational activities, while also supporting their lodges and communities. Many Elk-Enders chapters host fundraising events, contribute to local lodge projects, and participate in Elks charity programs.
Today, the Elk-Enders remain an active and beloved tradition, providing members with opportunities to connect, explore, and serve—all from the comfort of their campers. For those who love the road and the Elks, it’s the best of both worlds.
